Brentford fail to stretch lead

Coca-Cola League Two leaders Brentford blew the chance to go 10 points clear on Tuesday when they lost 1-0 at home to mid-table Chesterfield.

Martin Gritton's 53rd-minute goal caused the upset at Griffin Park.

Gillingham moved up four places to second in another match settled by a solitary goal, Simeon Jackson (58) with the winner at Notts County.

Bradford's play-off challenge suffered another setback on the road, 4-1 this time at Bournemouth.

The Cherries' goals came from Steve Fletcher (four and 39) and Jeff Goulding (40 and 51), Matthew Clarke's 25th-minute equaliser for the Bantams making no significant difference in the end.

Accrington moved to within a point of Port Vale in low mid-table, thanks to a 2-0 home win over Dean Glover's side. Andrew Procter (four) and James Ryan (27) put Stanley in control.

Darlington achieved a similar feat, closing the gap to a single point slightly higher up the table behind Lincoln after a 1-0 success at Sincil Bank - Danny Carlton with the winning goal in just the seventh minute.

Contrastingly, Aldershot stretched their advantage over Rotherham - and stayed level on points with Darlington - with a 2-1 win at the Don Valley Stadium.

John Grant (15 and 39) struck twice in the first half, and Jamie Clarke's 78th-minute reply proved to be no more than minor consolation.

Bottom club Luton prolonged their distant hopes of salvation when Asa Hall (89) grabbed three points at home to fellow strugglers Grimsby. Ryan Bennett (43) had put Grimsby in front, only for Mark Bower to equalise as Luton played right to the whistle in both halves.
