MK Dons boss Roberto Di Matteo was furious with his side's defending which allowed Crewe back into the game during the 2-2 draw at stadium:mk.

Dons' promotion dream has stuttered in recent weeks and they looked set for a welcome win until struggling Alex launched a second-half fightback as Mark Carrington's header and Gylfi Sigurdsson's penalty drew them level.

"It was five minutes of madness that cost us two points," fumed Di Matteo. "We had a lot of chances in the first half - even before we got the first goal - and they didn't seem to be a threat at all."

He added: "We need to defend a lot better than we did for the first goal and then if the goalkeeper comes diving out like that, then he has got to get the ball.

"Otherwise he gives the referee a decision to make.

"The dressing room is really down at the moment but we will keep remaining positive and try to keep picking up points."
