Teenage Plymouth striker Ashley Barnes has signed a new two-year contract extension with the Championship club.

The deal will keep former Paulton Rovers ace Barnes, 19, at Home Park until summer 2011 and is a reward for his progress.

Argyle boss Paul Sturrock said: "I'm very hopeful that with more work on him, Ashley will get better and better."

He added: "He came in at an important time of the season for us and didn't let us down. He wants more goals but that will come."

Barnes made his full debut in the 1-0 win at champions Wolves in late February and retained his place until the end of the season.
