QPR are breathing a sigh of relief after tests showed Martin Rowlands' ankle injury is not serious.

The midfielder and captain, who missed most of last season with a knee problem, was forced off during the second half of Saturday's draw with Blackpool.

But a scan has shown the injury is not as bad as first feared and although Rowlands will miss Tuesday's Carling Cup trip to Exeter, he should be able to resume training soon.

"It's a low-grade ankle ligament injury," physio Paul Hunter told the club's official website.

"It's not serious at all but we'll monitor him over the next few days and get him back on the training pitch as soon as possible."
