Young Hartlepool striker Matty Tymon has been ruled out until the new year with an ankle ligament problem.
The 19-year-old suffered the injury in the latter stages of the reserves' 3-1 defeat against Scunthorpe last week.
Second-string coach Colin West told the club's official website: "It's disappointing for Matty because he was just back into the starting line-up for the reserves and looking to make an impression."
It was initially feared Tymon had sustained a fracture but it now appears to be ligament damage and he will have the ankle in a cast for at least two weeks.
