Carlisle's Coca-Cola League One contest with Swindon will go ahead on Saturday afternoon despite heavy rain and flooding throughout Cumbria.

The torrential rain eased to allow ground staff to work tirelessly to clear six to eight inches of standing water from one end of the Brunton Park pitch by 8pm on Friday night and the 3pm fixture was given the go ahead on Saturday morning.

A statement on the club's official website read: "The Brunton Park playing surface has been completely cleared of standing water following the weather events of the last 48 hours and the game against Swindon Town this afternoon is definitely on."

United chairman Andrew Jenkins told Sky Sports News: "We're quite used to problems at Carlisle, especially the weather.

"The groundsman had a sleepless night, but it was important to get the game on because we're still in two cup competitions.

"There are no problems around Carlisle, I believe there are still some problems, but I think Cockermouth took the brunt of it."
