Adebayo Akinfenwa grabbed two second-half goals to earn Northampton an unlikely point in a 2-2 draw against Crewe.

In an error-strewn game, both defences struggled, especially Northampton who found themselves 2-0 down at the break.

Calvin Zola twice went close before Clayton Donaldson gave Crewe a 14th-minute lead after he capitalised on a mistake by Patrick Kanyuka.

Crewe doubled their advantage two minutes before the break when John Johnson could only turn Zola's low cross into his own net.

But Akinfenwa reduced the arrears six minutes after the restart with a shot on the turn from the edge of the box.

And Northampton's top scorer put his side back on level terms in the 62nd minute with a superb effort from the edge of the box.

Both sides could have won it late on, with Chris Dunn pulling off a string of fine saves for Northampton, while Steve Phillips denied Josh Walker a late winner on his Northampton debut.
