Burton have been rocked by the news that right-back Ryan Austin is to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Austin will be out for at least eight months, after picking up the injury in the first half of the FA Cup defeat to Gillingham on Saturday.

Manager Paul Peschisolido told the club`s official website: "I'm devastated because he has been superb this season. So far he's probably one of our contenders for player of the season."

He added: "He's a lovely lad, he's great to have around the place. He's bubbly and he's an example of the type of player we want around the club. I'm absolutely devastated."

Austin was Burton's only player to have played every minute of the Football League season so far.

In his absence, Peschisolido will have to decide whether to give Aaron Brown an extended run in the side or look to strengthen his squad in January.
