Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd admitted his side were 'hanging on' towards the end of the 2-1 win at struggling Brighton.

Phil Ifil and Anthony Wordsworth put the Us 2-0 up but Gary Dicker halved the deficit to set up a nervy finish. Colchester held out for a fourth win in five games which took them up to third, and Boothroyd admitted it could not have been more hard fought.

"Brighton couldn't cope with us for the first 25 minutes, but we then lost our discipline and got a bit ragged," he said. "Brighton had a real go at us and we were camped in our half."

He added: "Sometimes when you concede two goals so early on a game plan goes. Brighton had nothing to lose, they had a real go at us and we just wanted to hang on."Í
