Lambert plays down league position

Boss Paul Lambert insists he will not be distracted by the League One table despite seeing his Norwich side leap into second place with a battling 1-0 win against struggling Wycombe.

The Canaries have now won nine games out of 11 thanks to a late strike from teenager Korey Smith after it looked like the visitors would be frustrated by Wycombe keeper Scott Shearer.

"When I took over if you said we would be second in the league I'd have taken it but I want to be first," he said. "I can't thank the players enough - they have been terrific."

He added: "I'm a great believer in trying to win as many games as you can. We have made great strides in the last few months, but it's only a table and I'm not one for looking at it at the moment.

"We have a never-say-die attitude backed by a terrific following that spurs us on. The fans came a long way to see us at Walsall and that was called off so it's a massive thanks to them for that and again they were incredible."
