Peterborough manager Mark Cooper has welcomed the appointment of his predecessor Darren Ferguson at Preston - but has warned him off making any bids for Posh players.

Cooper replaced Ferguson at the helm at London Road in November but does not expect any business between the two clubs in the coming month.

Cooper told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "It's great for Darren that he's back and it seems like a good job for him.

"Preston are a big club with a good fanbase and he deserves his chance there. I suppose he will fancy a few of our players but I doubt whether he could afford them so I'm not expecting to hear from him."

He added: "I have always got on great with him and I honestly hope he gets a good reception when he comes back here at the end of the month.

"He may have struggled for a couple of months this year but what he achieved at this club in the previous two years was outstanding."
