Aldershot climbed into the League Two play-off places after claiming a 2-1 win at promotion rivals Bury.

Scott Donnelly gave the Shots the lead against the run of play with a 30th-minute penalty and the Shots midfielder claimed his 12th of the season with a 56th-minute strike.

Shots keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz was sent off after conceding an 87th-minute penalty, converted by Bury substitute Andy Bishop, but the visitors held on for their third straight win.

That sent Kevin Dillon's men within a point of goal-shy Bury, who have gone nine games since scoring from open play and lost their last three.

Bury's Mike Jones had an early effort deflected wide before Jaimez Ruiz clawed out a Ryan Cresswell header.

Tom Elliott then turned wide of an open goal after latching onto Aaron Brown's stray header back to his keeper.

Yet the visitors stunned the Shakers as Cresswell pulled down Marvin Morgan and Wayne Brown just failed to keep out Donnelly's low penalty.

The unmarked Marlon Jackson was too close to Brown with a header before Ben Futcher's clearance was cut out and Donnelly smashed a 20-yard drive into the bottom corner.

Stephen Dawson and Elliott went close for Bury before Brown kept out Shots sub Damian Spencer's header.

Bishop sidefooted home after Jaimez-Ruiz brought down Dawson but Aldershot weathered the late onslaught.
