Sam Sodje kept Charlton in with a chance of automatic promotion from League One as they defeated Carlisle 1-0.

The centre-back rose to meet Frazer Richardson's in-swinging corner in the 44th minute and thundered in a header from three yards out at the back post.

Richardson's delivery caused problems for Carlisle all match and he found Nicky Forster at the back post with another in-swinging corner, but the striker's header from four yards out was smothered on the line by Adam Collin.

The right-back also nearly found the top right-hand corner with a 40-yard free kick from the left but Collin got across to palm the ball over.

Carlisle rarely threatened and could have lost by more as Jonjo Shelvey missed two great chances, hitting a rebound wide in the 76th minute from six yards and shooting straight at two defenders five minutes later.
