Clayton Donaldson struck inside a minute to end Crewe's four-match losing run as Aldershot's promotion bid continues to stutter following a 1-1 draw.

Ben Harding's 40th-minute in-swinging corner deflected in at the near post to draw the Shots level and Dean Morgan's stoppage time drive crashed against the post as Aldershot desperately pushed to try and get their play-off ambitions back on track but to no avail.

The visitors got off to the best possible start when Calvin Zola played Donaldson through and his six-yard effort looped off Dave Winfield and over scrambling goalkeeper Jamie Young.

Dean Morgan burst past a static midfield and worked Steve Phillips from distance before he blazed Chris Blackburn's drilled cross wide as the Shots searched for a reply.

The home side's pressure paid-off when Harding's corner was bundled in off a pack of defenders, though Joel Grant's strike for Crewe was ruled offside moments before half-time.

Aldershot surged forward after the break and Winfield's header grazed the Crewe crossbar as the play-off contenders threw everything forward but failed to force a winner.
