Assistant boss Steve Davis could take charge of Crewe for their remaining three matches this season to allow Alex chief Dario Gradi to step up his search for new players.

Gradi has earmarked three or four signings for the summer, with a commanding centre-half and a clinical striker topping his list of priorities. Gradi has suggested that Davis take charge of the games against Accrington, Rotherham and Bradford while he scouts potential additions to the squad.

"I may allow Steve to take charge of the last few games because I think it will be good for him and will allow me to go out and scout some potential targets," Gradi told the club's official website.

"We know what we need but it is never easy signing players. We certainly won't have a lot of money to spend so if we can get a head-start on those players going out of contract and on loan signings, that would do us fine."
