Tottenham’s Luka Modric is reportedly a surprise target for London rivals Chelsea as Spurs target Sevilla front man Luis Fabiano.

The Blues have been linked with a number of expensive summer buys and reports today suggest they will make Spurs a £20 million for the Croatian star.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti has already been linked with big names such as Fernando Torres and Alexandre Pato up front but, with Deco looking likely to move back to Brazil a midfielder could become a priority at Stamford Bridge.

Having just qualified for the Champions League, though, Spurs are unlikely to want to sell one of their key assets and boss Redknapp has already set the ball rolling on improving his options.

Brazil striker Fabiano, previously linked with Chelsea themselves, is highly rated and is interested in a move away from Sevilla.

Fabiano could consult his current strike partner Frederic Kanoute, who has been on the books at White Hart Lane, for advice.

Redknapp is in the market for a striker as Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko look likely to be offloaded and Eidur Gudjohnsen is only on loan at Spurs.

The former West Ham manager recently ruled out a move for Man City striker Craig Bellamy after attempting to sign the Welshman before he moved to Eastlands.
