Tranmere striker Craig Curran has joined League One rivals Carlisle on a free transfer after turning down a new deal at Prenton Park.

Curran, who made 111 appearances and scored 16 goals after coming through Tranmere's youth system, has signed a two-year contract.

Curran said: "I'm really pleased to get it all sorted and I can't wait for pre-season training to start on July 1."

He added: "The manager is really ambitious, you can sense that as soon as he talks to you. That's the kind of person I am, I want to better myself and I think this is the place I can do it."

United boss Greg Abbott added: "Craig is a player who is really hungry to play football and exactly the kind of person we want at this football club."
