Dave Artell paid tribute to Morecambe after quitting the club to join League Two rivals Crewe on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old spent three years with the Shrimps and helped them to make the play-offs last season. He has now joined the Railwaymen but admitted it was a big decision for him to leave Morecambe ahead of their move to the Globe Arena.

Artell said: "I have had three great years at Morecambe and the club has made huge strides in those three years. It is no secret that I was looking for a two-year deal which Crewe offered me."

He added: "They are still a big club and are nearer to home for me and my family so a lot of things made sense and I am looking forward to the new season and the new challenge."
