West Ham began their pre-season with a 2-1 victory over npower League One side Peterborough at London Road.

Teenage midfielder Anthony Edgar scored the winner after Carlton Cole's opener, set up by new signing Thomas Hitzlsperger, had been cancelled out by Dave Hibbert.

The 19-year-old Edgar, who is the cousin of England striker Jermain Defoe, took his 65th-minute goal well after picking up the ball 30 yards out and bursting through the Posh defence before picking his spot.

Elsewhere, Fulham defeated Brentford 5-0, relegated Hull thumped East Yorkshire neighbours North Ferriby 6-0 while fellow Championship side Scunthorpe won 5-1 at Brigg Town.

Coventry were held to a goalless draw by non-league Nuneaton.
