Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has suffered a major blow to his preparations for the new campaign with Barry Fuller and Dennis Oli expected to be out for four to six weeks.

Captain Fuller sustained suspected medial ligament damage in Saturday's 2-1 friendly win at Ebbsfleet while Oli picked up a hamstring problem in training last week.

New loan signing Cody McDonald is also struggling with a slight foot problem and a frustrated Hessenthaler told the club's official website: "Over the last couple of days we have picked up a couple of injuries. We've lost Dennis Oli for four to six weeks with a torn hamstring so that's why he hasn't been involved.

"Cody McDonald is still struggling slightly with his foot but hopefully he'll be fit for the Hearts game and we'll have to wait and see on Barry but it looks like a medial ligament injury."

He added: "As everybody knows that could take a bit of time. He'll be a loss because he's been fantastic since I've taken over at the club."

Meanwhile, Lance Cronin, who has been training with the club recently, is set to sign a contract at Priestfield on Monday.
