World Cup is in the past, says Bobby

Fabio Capello has named an experimental squad for the upcoming friendly against Hungary and new boy Bobby Zamora has insisted they are not thinking about the World Cup now.

Zamora is one of five players called up that do not have an international cap to their name and reckons the focus is only on the next tournament in two years time.

The Fulham forward said: "I don’t think anyone has mentioned what happened at the World Cup.

"Everyone is focused on the next tournament, which is the European [Championships in 2012]," he added.

Despite the players not dwelling on their performance in South Africa, Zamora knows the fans may not take a similar view and has admitted the squad are prepared for a mixed reaction.

“The squad knows the reaction might be a bit mixed but the World Cup is in the past now,” he said, adding: “It was a very tough tournament.

“There was a lot of other major countries that didn't do as well as they'd expect, I think everyone has to remember that.”

Zamora missed out on a place in the England squad that travelled to Africa because he felt he was not fit enough, a decision he took himself for the good of the nation.

“I spoke to Franco [Baldini] about being in the squad but unfortunately it was one of those things that happens in football when you get an injury.

“I wouldn't have done myself justice or my country if I had gone with the squad. The operation that I had over the summer was needed.”
