Aldershot striker Marvin Morgan missed a late penalty as Football League newcomers Stevenage held firm for a well-earned point in a 1-1 draw at the EBB Stadium.

With five minutes left on the clock the forward's tame penalty failed to cap a tremendous home side fightback.

The hosts started well with skipper Anthony Charles volleying narrowly over from Morgan's flicked header on 12 minutes.

Town's Jamie Vincent shot inches wide moments later after Mark Roberts made a hash of an attempted clearance.

Boro responded well, but forward Chris Beardsley's close-range low finish was ruled out for offside on 44 minutes.

However Beardsley was not to be denied, finishing clinically from Yemi Odubade's flick-on on after 50 minutes.

The Hertfordshire club's lead only lasted 13 minutes, though, substitute Damien Spencer reacting first to a long punt and rounding Jamie Young for the easiest of levellers.

And it was left to Aldershot's hitman Morgan to win it, but Chris Day's superb reflex stop ensured the travelling Boro a share of the spoils after Jon Ashton had brought down Spencer with five minutes remaining.
