Nolberto Solano has a key role to play for Hull manager Nigel Pearson this season.

The 35-year-old midfielder, who signed a one-year deal after following Pearson from Leicester to the KC Stadium in the summer, has been restricted to four appearances due to loss of form and a thigh injury.

Pearson told the Hull Daily Mail: "He will have been a little bit frustrated with how the season has started for him, but hopefully people will see that he's a very valuable member of our squad."

He added: "Even though he's in the latter years of his career, he's still got a significant part to play on and off the field for us."

Pearson, who also worked with the Peruvian when he was coach at Newcastle, added: "He brings a lot of experience and, certainly, he's an excellent passer of the ball."
