Chesterfield remain on top of the League Two table after securing a creditable 0-0 draw at Stevenage.

The first half featured plenty of half-chances, but no goals.

Stevenage bossed the early proceedings and Chris Holroyd almost broke the deadlock when he saw a powerful shot blocked.

Michael Bostwick then twice flashed low shots narrowly wide of either post for the hosts.

Holroyd then fluffed a great opportunity when he scooped a shot over the Chesterfield crossbar from close range.

The Spireites created the final chance of the opening half, but Craig Davies fired over from just inside the box.

The visitors carried on from where they left off in the first half when Davies again went close just after the restart.

Visiting sub Jack Lester then almost made an immediate impact when he crashed a shot inches wide just minutes after coming on.

Chesterfield almost snatched a winner in stoppage time, but Derek Niven fired disappointingly straight at Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Day.
