Exeter picked up their first league victory of 2011 with a 2-1 win over rock-bottom Walsall.

The Grecians took just four minutes to break the deadlock when David Noble's clever pass sent Steve Tully scampering clear and he crossed to the back post where Richard Duffy controlled before firing past Jimmy Walker.

Jamie Cureton missed a great chance to put Exeter two up when he blasted wide of the far post, while Walsall's Richard Taundry side-footed a golden opportunity wide at the start of the second half.

Former Exeter captain Matt Gill forced Ben Hamer into a smart save with a point-blank header before Daniel Nardiello made it 2-0 after 77 minutes when he tucked the ball into the corner after a quickly taken free-kick by Noble.

Nardiello missed a penalty after John O'Flynn had been fouled in the box by Aaron Lescott, before Walsall pulled a goal back five minutes from time when Julian Gray scrambled the ball in at the back post.
