Lee Hughes salvaged a 1-1 draw for Notts County at Hartlepool.

The hosts were leading through Gary Liddle's first-half strike but substitute Hughes levelled after the break.

Pools handed a debut to new loan signing Ryan Donaldson from Newcastle and he set up Andy Monkhouse to fire an early rising drive wide.

But they took the lead in the 38th minute with their first goal since New Year's Day and their first in 419 minutes of League One action.

Neil Austin's chip into the area was met by midfielder, who slotted low under Stuart Nelson for his fourth of the season.

But the introduction of Hughes at half-time turned the game. John Thompson headed down a Jon Harley free-kick and the poacher was well placed to tap in after 69 minutes.

Pools had chances to win their first game in six but Neil Austin shot too high and Nelson saved superbly from Monkhouse in stoppage time.
