Chelsea are throwing Nemanja Matic into the mix as they look to secure Benfica defender David Luiz, according to the Telegraph.

Luiz, who is said to be having a work permit hearing today, has been the subject of much speculation in January, as Chelsea look to bolster their back-line.

Matic has been on loan at Dutch club Vitesse since August but Chelsea are willing to bring him back to be part of the deal for Brazilian, Luiz.

At the age of 16, Matic began his senior career with FK Kolubara in the Serbian league before a move to Slovakian side, MFK Kosice in 2004.

On 18 August 2009, Matic signed a four-year deal at Chelsea with the club paying around £1.5 million for his services.

The Premier League champions are also set to send Patrick van Aanholt to Leicester City and Gaël Kakuta is set to join Fulham.

Young defender Jeffrey Bruma is also expected to be sent out to gain experience, whilst Michael Mancienne is halfway through a season-long loan at Wolves.
