Gary Megson has appointed Chris Evans as his assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday.

Megson has also moved fast to install Neil Thompson as first-team coach.

The former Bolton and West Brom manager took over from the sacked Alan Irvine as Owls boss last week and will officially take charge of his first game on Saturday at Rochdale.

Evans, 48, a former player with Arsenal, Stoke, York and Darlington, was Academy manager at Wolves before teaming up with Megson as his assistant at Bolton.

Former Hull and Ipswich defender Thompson, 47, who has managerial experience with York, Boston and Scarborough, spent over six years as Academy manager at Leeds before being sacked in November.

The Owls have failed to win any of their last seven league games and Megson has been charged with resurrecting the club's promotion challenge this season by chairman Milan Mandaric.
