Watford manager Malky Mackay has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract to tie him to Vicarage Road.

Mackay has steered the Hornets into the top half consistently on a minimal budget since he replaced Brendan Rodgers 18 months ago and will now stay put along with assistant Sean Dyche - who has signed a similar deal.

Chairman Graham Taylor said: "Malky`s willingness to accept the challenges that face him and buy into the philosophy that we have at the club has been admirable."

He added: "Supporters have seen a man at work who genuinely cares for the well-being of the club having joined us first as a player in 2005.

"We have secured the futures of two men who want to put the future of Watford first and that has to be a positive."

Both men had just short of 18 months left to run on deals signed in the summer of 2009.
