Will Hoskins earned struggling Bristol Rovers a vital away win at Meadow Lane as they saw off hosts Notts County with a 1-0 victory.

In the first half, Harry Pell failed to find a way through despite four chances, while County's best opportunity came when Kevin McDonald's cross found Lee Hughes, but his header was saved.

After the break, a County free-kick found Gambia striker Njogu Demba-Nyren, whose shot on the turn was tipped behind by Conrad Logan.

An error in the Notts backline then presented Hoskins with a golden opportunity, and he pounced inside the area to put the visitors ahead.

That sparked a crazy five minutes as Rovers midfielder Jeff Hughes turned his marker but shot inches wide and Demba-Nyren's effort was spilled to Lee Hughes six yards out, but he somehow shot straight into a prone Logan's midriff.

Lee Hughes then headed wide at the far post and Demba-Nyren was denied by a last-ditch tackle.

With six minutes remaining, County substitute Fabian Brandy won a penalty off Chris Lines, but Logan dived to his right to keep out Alan Gow's well-struck kick.
