Middlesbrough defender Seb Hines will have an injection to try and overcome his ongoing ankle problem.

The 22-year-old had been battling through the pain barrier but was forced to miss Boro's 2-1 win over Watford at the weekend.

Boss Tony Mowbray is hopeful that the injection, scheduled for Monday, will speed Hines' return to full fitness. "Seb Hines has done very well since he came into the side but we have had to nurse him through," he told the Evening Gazette.

He added: "He has missed some training and he has spent some time on the treatment table. We have managed to get him out there but Saturday's game was one too many.

"Hopefully the injection will help to solve the problem."
