Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has described John Terry as the 'perfect captain' after The Blues defender was reinstated as England skipper this week.

Terry was stripped of the captaincy after revelations about his private life appeared in the national press last year, but the honour has been passed back to the 30-year-old at the expense of Rio Ferdinand.

England manager Fabio Capello has come under huge criticism for making the change at a crucial stage in the country's Euro 2012 qualifying campaign and there were concerns another change might further damage team moral.

But Mourinho says: “John Terry was the perfect captain for me, that’s the only thing I can say.

“I don’t know what happened and I don’t want to know. I don’t know things about the national team, I don’t want to know.

“They have in Fabio [Capello] a very experienced manager who makes those decisions and the only thing I can say, is that John [Terry] was a fantastic captain for me.

“I’ve never worked with Rio, I’ve never had that pleasure but my feeling and understanding from the outside is that he is was a great captain too.”

The Real Madrid boss won two Barclays Premier League titles, two League Cups, the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield with Terry as his skipper during his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
