Peterborough United have signed Joe Day from Rushden and Diamonds to help solve their goalkeeping problems.

The 19-year-old has signed for the Posh for £100,000, will join at the end of the season and is sure to provide competition for the goalkeeping jersey with Joe Lewis.

The England under-21 international has endured a difficult recent run of form and teenager Day will give manager Darren Ferguson a selection dilemma next season.

Ferguson is the son of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who himself is looking for a goalkeeper with the impending retirement of Edwin Van Der Sar.

United returned to form after their draw with Bournemouth with a win over Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday night.

Lewis was at fault for two of The Cherries' three goals in last weeks clash but was publicly backed by Ferguson prior to United's meeting with Dagenham.

The London Road club lie just three points behind second placed Huddesfield with six games remaining in Npower League One.
