Stockport caretaker manager Ray Mathias has warned his relegation-threatened side they are playing for their futures.

County sit five points behind third-from-bottom Burton in League Two with just six games remaining and face a huge task to avoid dropping out of the Football League. Only Mark Lynch, Matt Glennon and Matty Mainwaring are contracted at Edgeley Park beyond the end of the season and the future of several other players remains uncertain.

"All the players want to be playing in the Football League," Mathias, whose side welcome Stevenage to Edgeley Park on Saturday, told the Stockport Express.

"That's no disrespect to the Conference because no player wants to drop down a level.

"Players like Paul Turnbull, Greg Tansey and James Vincent have played in League One.

"All of a sudden they are finding themselves looking at dropping out of the league."
