Brighton secured the npower League One title as they maintained their all-conquering form with a 3-1 win at struggling Walsall.
The Seagulls had already guaranteed promotion to the Championship earlier this week and got off to a fine start when Inigo Calderon put them ahead in the sixth minute with a header.
The hosts levelled five minutes later, Andy Butler heading home Matthew Richards' corner, but the Saddlers were again behind shortly after the break through Glenn Murray's close-range header. Emanuel Ledesma earned a red card for a professional foul on Adam El-Abd with 11 minutes left before Elliott Bennett added a third in the 90th minute.
A late goal by Guly Do Prado saw Southampton claim a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers and remain in the automatic promotion places.
Southampton started the game in second, courtesy of a superior goal difference to Huddersfield, while Rovers were in the fourth relegation place. The game was heading for a draw until the 82nd minute when Guly slotted home.
Joey Gudjonsson scored with seven minutes to go as Huddersfield won 1-0 at Charlton. Gudjonsson sent a right-footed shot high into the top right-hand corner of the goal as the Terriers claimed all three points.
Peterborough kept up the heat with a 2-1 over Plymouth.
It was the Pilgrims, who appear all but relegated, who took the lead seven minutes before half-time through Carl Fletcher who slotted home Simon Walton's free-kick.
The Posh levelled when Ryan Bennett swept home into the top left-hand corner of the goal 10 minutes after the break and Craig Mackail-Smith bundled home with 20 minutes left.
However, Luke Summerfield missed a penalty in the final minute for the visitors, Joe Lewis saving the shot.
