Morecambe have unveiled Jim Bentley as their new player-manager.
The Shrimps defender replaces Sammy McIlroy, whose five-year tenure came to an end on Monday.
Bentley, who signed for the club nine years ago, has penned a two-year deal at the Globe Arena.
"It's going to be a tough job and it's totally different from what I'm used to, but it's a challenge I'm up for," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"I love the place and I've enjoyed my time here as a player."
The Lancashire outfit finished 20th in npower League Two this season and chairman Peter McGuigan admitted it had been a "disappointing" campaign.
