Hartlepool have been handed a major boost after highly-rated defender Peter Hartley became the latest player to agree a new contract.
The centre-back made the switch to Victoria Park from Sunderland in the summer of 2009 and was initially deployed at left-back during his first season with his hometown club.
However, the 23-year-old has prospered this term after being switched to his favoured role in the centre of defence by Mick Wadsworth.
His performances have attracted admiring glances from a clutch of higher-placed clubs and his signature on a new deal - the length of which has not been disclosed - is another significant coup for Wadsworth as he bolsters his squad in preparation for next term.
