Brighton boss Gus Poyet has been named League One manager of the year by the League Managers' Association.

The Uruguayan, who guided Albion to the title and promotion to the Championship, was honoured at Monday night's awards dinner in London.

He said: "I'm privileged to accept this award and it makes it all the more special when it's been voted for by other managers throughout English football."

He added: "I'm proud of the award because League One was a very competitive league last season with some very good managers, both young and experienced."

The Seagulls went top of the table in September and stayed there for the duration of the season.

As part of Poyet's plans to strengthen the squad for life in the second tier, he recently moved to sign Bristol Rovers striker Will Hoskins for an undisclosed six-figure fee.
