Sheffield Wednesday have completed their first two signings of the summer in defender Rob Jones and midfielder David Prutton.

The Owls have swooped for the pair on two-year deals, both arriving on free transfers from Scunthorpe and Swindon respectively.

Jones, 31, is no stranger to Wednesday fans having spent the closing part of the season on loan at Hillsborough, making eight appearances. Meanwhile, Prutton, 29, enjoyed spells at Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Leeds and Colchester before just one season with the Robins, in which he failed to prevent their relegation to League Two.

Owls boss Gary Megson told the club's official website: "Our supporters are well aware of the qualities of Rob Jones and I'm really pleased that we've been able to secure him on a permanent contract.

"I've admired David Prutton for a long time and first and foremost he has character and he will put demands on everybody else."

Earlier this month Megson revealed he had handed a list of nine transfer targets to chairman Milan Mandaric and vice-chairman Paul Aldridge.
