Middlesbrough left-back Joe Bennett is confident that the team can mount a serious promotion challenge next season.

The 21-year-old benefited from the arrival of current boss Tony Mowbray in October, making 30 league appearances under the former Celtic manager.

"We've got to try and get promoted and I think we've got a good chance," Bennett told the club's official website.

"If you look at our form at the end of the season, we beat Cardiff, one of the best teams in the league. That shows we can beat any team.

"It's going to be tough, but if we carry on our form and keep the base of the squad then we'll have a good chance."

After being reinstated in the side by Mowbray, Bennett earned the Fans' Player of the Year Award. He said: "It meant a lot to me winning. The fans have been really good to me since I broke into the first team."
