Manchester United are planning to launch a bid for Luka Modric as a replacement for Paul Scholes, according to The Sun.

The Croatian midfielder was voted player of the season by Tottenham Hotspur fans in the wake of his fine performances that saw Spurs reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

The rumours come in the wake of former Tottenham midfielder, Darren Anderton labelling Modric the perfect replacement for Scholes at Old Trafford.

But with Scholes having made said Old Trafford goodbyes, as a player, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bring in Spurs' Modric, as part of a major overhaul at United.

The likes of Wesley Sneijder, David De Gea and Ashley Young have also been mentioned potential signings for United, with Ferguson reportedly able to spend as much as £50 million this summer.

Reports suggest the Scot is preparing for the biggest shake up of his squad since 1995, with Dimitar Berbatov, Wes Brown, Darron Gibson and Gabriel Obertan all expected to leave United
