Football betting punters will appreciate the never ending nightmare which much of the England squad have lived through over the last 12 months.
A disastrous World Cup last summer followed by endless tabloid gossip and terrace abuse will have the current crop desperate to hear the full time whistle that will herald their summer holidays on Saturday.
The Group G Euro 2012 qualifier v Switzerland at Wembley represents the final game for the Three Lions until they face the Netherlands in a friendly in August. But anything other than a win will be a disaster for Fabio Capello and his troops in the race to qualify for the Euros.
England currently sit top of Group G ahead of Montenegro on goal difference with ten points from four matches. Yet they have failed to win any of their last three home internationals, drawing with Ghana and losing to France in friendlies and drawing with Montenegro in their last qualifier.
They have also drawn two of their previous five matches with Switzerland 1-1 so must avoid any complacency in front of an expectant Wembley crowd.
Punters betting on football this weekend should also be aware that England’s goal scoring record against Switzerland isn’t the greatest with the Three Lions having failed to put more than four goals past the Swiss since the 8-1 drubbing of 1963.
And with Montenegro in action against Bulgaria on Saturday night, England will likely need to win to stay in pole position to top their Euro 2012 Group.
Yet despite the nightmare year and worrying statistics ahead of the game, a poor Switzerland side with just four points to their name should not worry England on home turf. So expect a win on Saturday before England jet off on their long-awaited summer holidays.
