As if more proof that Javier Hernandez is the signing of the season was needed, the Manchester United forward scored three goals this weekend as Mexico defeated El Salvador 5-0 in Dallas, USA.

With Mexico up 2-0 going into the second half, Hernandez scored to his nations third in the 60th minute, and within seven minutes the 23-year-old struck again before finishing his hat trick off in injury time with a penalty.

"The most important thing for me is the three points,” Hernandez said humbly.

“I don't care if I score – sometimes I won't. The main thing is we won.”

Hernandez will play again for Mexico in the Gold Cup on 9th June, when the side take on Cuba in Charlotte, USA.

Across the waters, Nani helped Portugal to a 1-0 win over Norway in their Euro 2012 qualifier, with the side now taking top place in group H. John O’Shea also featured in Republic of Ireland’s 2-0 win in Macedonia.

Rio Ferdinand was part of England’s fightback 2-2 draw with Switzerland, while youngsters Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley all played in the England Under21s Euro warm up against Norway. The Young Lions claimed a comfortable 2-0 win.
