Spurs and Arsenal target in no rush to talk move

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal target Scott Parker is not prepared to discuss his future until after he has had a well-earned summer break.

The West Ham United midfielder, and Football Writer's Player of the Year was speaking after England's 2-2 Euro 2012 qualifying draw with Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday.

Following a lacklustre performance, both individually and as a team, the England players accentuated the impacts of a long season and the ever-increasing need for a rest.

Parker, who is set to leave the recently relegated Hammers this summer has been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Spurs as both clubs begin their search for players to improve their respective playing squads.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has identified Parker as a value for money addition to compliment an already strong midfield at the Emirates Stadium.


 

The blossoming partnership between Parker and current Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere in the Three Lions midfield is something that has encouraged Wenger to step up his interest in the in-demand midfield maestro.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp meanwhile is a long-term admirer of Parker, having tried to bring him to White Hart Lane last summer and it is expected that Spurs will provide Arsenal with competition for his signature again this summer.

Following the recent appointment of Sam Allardyce in the Hammers hotseat, Parker confirmed he will take the opportunity to speak to the new manager to discuss his future, but will likely leave Upton Park before the start of the new campaign.

"I'm sure he'll give me a call and we'll go through things," he said.

"As soon as that game ended, I think my main focus was having a rest and just shutting the body down, really.

"It's been a long, hard season for the majority of the players in there. So, looking forward to getting away with the family and just chilling out a little bit.

It is not yet known which club is the more likely of Spurs or Arsenal to seal Parker's signature, but there is a clear indication he will be playing in the Barclays Premier League again next season.
