Torquay hope to announce their new manager by next Monday as they prepare to draw up a shortlist of around five names who will be interviewed this week.

Paul Buckle parted ways at Plainmoor last Monday following the club's League Two play-off final defeat to Stevenage at Old Trafford, taking the vacant position at Bristol Rovers.

And the Gulls aim to have his replacement in place within a two-week turnaround at the latest. Chairman Simon Baker told the Western Morning News: "We are planning to draw up a shortlist of, maybe, five candidates. Our hope is to announce the next manager by next Monday afternoon, but it may be earlier if things progress quickly."

He added: "We've got a difficult choice, and there will be some pretty good candidates who won't get the job, which is reassuring in itself."

The Devon club gained promotion from the Blue Square Bet Premier in 2009 under the guidance of Buckle.

He has already swooped to sign goalkeeper Paul Bevan and assistant manager Shaun North from his old club.
