Bristol City's hopes of seeing Steven Caulker back at Ashton Gate next season look set to be scuppered by Premier League new boys Swansea.

The Tottenham centre-back enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with the Robins last term, making 30 appearances before a knee injury saw him return to White Hart Lane in mid-March.

City boss Keith Millen has long stressed his desire to see Caulker in a red shirt again and has already held talks with Spurs, but Swansea have now registered their interest in the England Under-21 international.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is hopeful of striking a deal having also spoken to the London outfit. He told BBC Wales: "Steven Caulker, yes, is a player Brendan is interested in bringing in and we're actually speaking to Tottenham about that."

With another season-long loan the most likely option, Tottenham would prefer to see the youngster gaining experience in the top flight should Swans chief Brendan Rodgers be able to convince them Caulker would see regular first-team action.

Jenkins added: "We'll hope to perhaps conclude something this week."
