Danny Coles revealed Exeter boss Paul Tisdale played a key role in his decision to join the Grecians from from Bristol Rovers.
The 29-year-old made 41 appearances for the Pirates last season, including three against his new side.
Coles crossed paths with Tisdale earlier in his career and had a productive talk with the City boss before deciding to make the move to Devon.
"I had a meeting with Paul and we talked about his plans, it was a very good chat," he said.
"I've known Paul for quite a while anyway as he was a player when I was an apprentice at Bristol City and we got on well then."
