Record signing made to feel welcome on Wearside

Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has reiterated his commitment to the Wearside club, saying the 'amazing' fans will have a big say in his decision to stay at the Stadium of Light.

Amid increased media speculation linking Gyan with a move away this summer, the 25-year-old Ghanaian international insists he is happy in the north east.

"Yeh, the fans gave me a warm reception," he said. "It was amazing. Since I have been at Sunderland, anything I do they appreciate it."

After joining the Black Cats last summer following a successful 2010 World Cup campaign, Gyan capped an impressive debut season for Sunderland, finishing as the club's top scorer with ten goals and four assists in 20 first team appearances.


 

"They know how hardworking I am. Even if we lose, you keep on working hard," he continued.

Having been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn was quick to quash any rumours about Gyan's prospective departure and issued a 'hands-off' warning to any potential suitors.

The Black Cats chief will be working alongside manager Steve Bruce to bring in a new striker to partner Gyan in Sunderland's front line next season – following the January sale of Darren Bent, and the return of loan star Danny Welbeck.
