Newcastle midfielder Ryan Taylor insists he still has to prove himself to Alan Pardew and the Geordie faithful.

Taylor ended the season in the first team following a term dominated by injury and suspension, and he’s keen to put a year of frustration behind him.

The 26-year-old believes he's still to make a genuine contribution in front of the manager who is now starting to make his own stamp on the squad he inherited from Chris Hughton.

“I’ve got to prove a point to the gaffer," said Taylor.

“It was disappointing to be injured.

“You can take getting injured in games because things happen, but when you get injured in training it’s hard to take, especially to be out for as long as I was.

“It was a bit of a nightmare, and then I was sent off in my comeback game. I worked hard and I’ll show the gaffer I want to work even harder.

“When he did see me for the first time, I lasted 50 minutes.”
