Scunthorpe have signed Andy Barcham on a two-year contract after the forward turned down a new deal with League Two club Gillingham.

The former Tottenham trainee, who can play up front or on the wing, was out of contract at Priestfield and joins the Iron on a free transfer.

Barcham, 24, told Scunthorpe's official website: "The gaffer Alan Knill got in touch with my agent and told me of his interest, then I met up with him and we took it from there. Quite a lot of things appealed to me really. I like the way the gaffer likes to play football. The club's ambition appealed too.

He added: "I know they got relegated last season but they've made it clear they want to try and get back in the Championship and that matches what I want to do.

"I'm looking forward to playing football again and meeting the lads. I just want to get playing now to be honest."
